Day 1- Complete!

Well, day 1 of Mission Waco is officially complete! I must say for a group of 68 (and 11 of them coming from Firewheel) we have done an amazing job and getting everywhere one time. Let's hope this continues for the rest of our trip! Here's a few bullet points for our first day!
  • We pulled out at 3:38 only 8 minutes behind schedule. We actually caught up with our 1 van coming from Firewheel along the way.
  • We arrived at the park we were eating at right at 5:30! We had a blast playing at the park and enjoying some yummy McAlister's sandwiches. It was great to finally have all of our group in one place to hang out and get to know each other a little better.
  • After dinner we had a short orientation with Kathy Wise (from Mission Waco). She spoke to the kids about what they can expect over the next few days. We have another orientation in the morning before we start our service projects.
  • After the orientation the girls and boys split up to do their different night activities. The boys went to My Brother's Keeper (homeless shelter) to have a Bible Study with some of the residents of the shelter. The boys were asked to hang out and meet a few people living at the shelter and get to know 3 facts about each of the residents to share with the group. It was an amazing opportunity for the kids to hear the backgrounds of each of the people living in the shelter. I can't wait till the girls get the chance to experience it tomorrow!
  • While the boys were at the shelter the girls got to come back to the hotel for a pool night! It was a blast!
  • After all of this each room got a chance to stop what they were doing to have a devotional as a hotel room. We talked about some of the reasons each kid came on this trip, spoke about the fears we each have coming on this trip and then spoke about why God calls us, as Christians, to help out those in need. We spoke about two verses- Romans 10"14-15 and Matthew 25:35-40.
Here are a few pictures from us at the park today!
